Obituary Richard P. Laibach, 80, a longtime Milan (Dutchess County) resident, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston. Mr. Laibach was a proud veteran of the United State Marine Corps, serving in military intelligence during the Korean War. After the Marine Corps, Mr. Laibach attended New York City Community College, graduating in 1959 and also attended Marist College. He was a commercial and municipal account representative for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Greater New York. He was a licensed real estate broker and appraiser, and was partner in Jane Knobloch Real Estate in Red Hook. Mr. Laibach was very active and well known within the Northern Dutchess community. He served as Town Supervisor, Town Justice, Councilman, and Zoning Board member for the Town of Milan. He also served as Town Justice in both Red Hook and Rhinebeck. He was the past President of the Dutchess County Magistrates Council and served as Administrative Law Judge for the Dutchess County Supreme Court. He was a longtime member and served on the consistory of St. John's Reformed Church in Red Hook and was active with the Youth Group. Mr. Laibach was life member and past Assistant Chief of the Milan Fire Company. He was an NYS Certified Emergency Medical Technician and a founding member of the Milan Rescue Squad. He was a Scoutmaster for Milan Boy Scouts of America Troop 51 and coach for Milan Little League. He also was a long standing member and past treasurer of the Red Hook Society for the Apprehension and Detention of Horse Thieves. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying camping, hunting, hiking and fishing. He was also a certified New York State DEC Hunting Safety Instructor. He was an avid football fan and was quarterback for Newtown High School. He was skilled in many construction trades, completed his own renovations and repairs, was talented with woodworking, and enjoyed restoring antique furniture. Mr. Laibach also was active with the Dutchess County Agricultural Society as a concessionaire coordinator for the Dutchess County Fair, Craft Fair and other events. He was born on May 16, 1931, in Astoria, NY; he was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Quinn) Laibach. Richard married Elisabeth Lennartz on December 20, 1952 in Queens and she survives at home in Milan. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by three sons; Richard and Debra Laibach of Red Hook, Robert and Elena Laibach of Amenia, and Paul Laibach of Red Hook; a daughter, Lisa and Jack Khan of Red Hook; nine grandchildren, Shane, Chris, Ilea, Marlena, Marissa, Michael, Lauren, Samantha, and Sabrina; and nephews and niece, David, Lorraine, and John. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Robert Laibach. |
